) General William Sherman set out from Chattanooga to Tennessee on a campaign of destruction towards Georgia to South Carolina. He and his troops marched through Georgia and destroyed everything in their way that the enemy would need to survive. SHerman took Atlanta in September 1864 and marched into Savannah in December and completed his campaign in February by setting fire to Columbia.Added to timeline:
