jan 1, 1893 - Depression of 1893

Description:

With the establishment of the ideology of Laissez-Faire, the weakness of the presidency became more evident. In 1894, "Coxey's army" which was a group of 500 protesters marched from Ohio to D.C. to protest the lack of a government response to the Depression. President Cleveland ignored the protests and reinforced for Americans that the president does not have any solutions for ending their suffering. Therefore, Executive power and the presidency were weakened in the eyes of Americans.
