Carnegie published an essay called "The Gospel of Wealth" in which he argued that the government should not involve itself with helping the poor and that the wealthy should provide the poor with some assistance. This further weekend the presidency and thus weakened Executive power as presidents did not assume any role in addressing the social inequities of the Gilded Age.
