Description:

President Pierce continued the ideology of Manifest Destiny by extending the "civilizing power" of the U.S.by coercing Japan into a trade agreement by threatening war with Japan. Therefore, a much more aggressive foreign policy was adopted by the U.S. in which the the U.S. indicated a willingness to confront other nations in order to achieve its goals.
