jan 1, 1861 - President Lincoln Waives Habeas Corpus

Description:

President Lincoln waived the right of haves corpus after the cessation by seven southern states, and the formation of the Confederate States of America, in an attempt to prevent the border slave states from also seceding. This act strengthened Executive power because it established the precedent of an American President's ability to use his office to deny U.S. citizen's right of protection from arbitrary arrests and detentions.
