Description:

An arms control treaty between the Soviet Union and the US. As per the treaty, both nations destroyed over 1,000 nuclear missiles.

Significance: Similar to SALT, this was an attempt to decrease the likelihood of global extinction. With destruction of the nuclear weapons came a world-wide sense of relief. After all, without the weapons, the war couldn't be fought. This was another step towards peace.
