Solidarity was the Polish trade union that became the first labor union inside of the Soviet bloc. The approval of the trade union by the Polish government paved way for having the first opposition movement to partake in free elections with the Soviet bloc since the 1940s. As time went on, the demand the Polish government received dealing with Solidarity increased-- demands such as economic reforms, free elections, as well as the trade union's involvement in high decision making. Future remarks and action against the destruction of Solidarity by the government would fail (used martial law and political repression).
Solidarity was significant in the war as it paved way for the downfall of communism. The new labor union would gain much attraction and produce more anti-communist movements to which would oppress the rule of communism over all. The grant of free elections as well as involvement with high decision making would signify the ever-growing distant relationship between the people and communism.
