1h 52min, dec 26, 1991 y - Collapse of the Soviet Union

Description:

As a result of Gorbachev's relaxed approaches to Soviet satellites staves as well as his previous policies of Glasnost and Perestroika, independence movements had been pushed for and would lead to the eventually the departure of the Soviet satellite states from the Soviet Union, On December 8, after Gorbachev was finally released from his house after being under house arrest since August 18. he met with leaders of the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine to sign an agreement that would break the states away from the Soviet Union (to recognize that they were officially leaving). During this, Gorbachev's popularity and power were falling, whilst Boris Yelstin's popularity and assumption of power were soon to be taken place-- taking over the KGB as well as the parliament. On Christmas day of 1991, Gorbachev would give up his office stating that "An end has been put to the Cold War and the arms race, as well as to the mad militarization of the country, which has rippled our economy, public attitudes, and morals." This statement would mark the end of the Cold War.
With little explanation, this was a significant event to the Cold War because it was the end of the Soviet Union, which would result of the end of the War as a whole.
