Description:

Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, abbreviated as SALT, were talks between the US and the Soviet Union aimed towards the restriction of further construction of strategic missiles. The first of the agreements, SALT I and SALT II were signed by both powers to recognized the halt of the arms race.
The significance of SALT was that it a significant achievement by Nixon through détente in order to ease tension between the two powers. This would further the powers from having conflict with one another and later predating the end of the war.
