oct 1, 1949 - Mao Zedong's Takeover of China

Description:

On October 1, 1949, Mao established the People's Republic of China (PRC) after years of attempting to take over the government, which would end the constant tension between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Nationalist Party, aka Kuomintang (KMT). Mao's takeover of China and the reformation of government into communism would lead to the United States suspending domestic relations with them until further notice.
Mao's takeover of China was a significant event in the war because it would be another distraction to the US and their goal of stopping the spread of communism in Eastern Europe-- another large state which is run by communism would be hard to oversee whilst overseeing the Soviets. Eventually, constant clash and proxy wars led to the revival of domestic relations between China and the US, giving edge to the US over USSR.
