mar 5, 1946 - Winston Churchill's Iron Curtain Speech
Description:
Speech delivered by the former British Prime Minister was meant to persuade the need for the United States and Britain to be the powers foreseeing the actions of Soviet communism.
Churchill described the political, military, and ideological border the Soviets had to establish after WWII as the "Iron Curtain". The Soviet's goal was to prevent contact between itself and the Eastern European powers from the Western powers. This curtain was in the plan to spread communism through Stalin (in which he viewed the spreading of communism as limitless).
The speech was significant to the War because it separated the US and Britain from the Soviets, ultimately having the western powers oversee and protect vulnerable states from being overtaken with the influence of communism in order to limit Stalin's power.
