Description:

This was the only revolution that ended in major violence. Protests were popping up, inspired by many of the revolutions from other nations during 1989. The protests cause the the President, Nicolae Ceaușescu, to turn the military on the people and put down the rebellions. This eventually lead to Ceausescu's capture, the trial of him and his wife, and their execution. This revolution was a result of the USSR's diminishing military control and power over eastern Europe due to the new perestroika of the military.
