jan 1, 1955 - Operation Wetback
Description:
This was the racist name that was given to the largest mass deportation in U.S. history that involved the deportation of approximately 1.5 million Mexicans during the Eisenhower presidency. The operation involved the U.S. government using the border patrol agents and military style tactics to round up hispanics suspected of being undocumented immigrants, who were placed on buses and planes and sent to Mexico. This operation was rooted in racism and xenophobia as is evidenced from the racist name.
