Description:

The rise of the New Left in the 1960s which gave President Johnson a commnanding elections victory drove Congress to act aggressively in the area of social reforms. As a result, Congress passed the 1965 Immigration Act which repealed the discriminatory nation origin quotas of the 1924 Act. This resulted in a shift in immigration from Europe to Asia and South America.
