may 25, 1787 - Commercial Compromise

Description:

The northern states wanted the central government to be able to regulate interstate commerce and foreign trade. The South didn’t want that because they were afraid of the government placing a tax on exported goods. The Commercial Compromise allowed Congress to regulate interstate and foreign trade, placing taxes on foreign imported goods, and prohibiting placing a tax on exported goods.
