Description:
The Merrimack was an ironclad Confederate warship able to destroy all of the Union's wooden ships. The Union responded by making a much smaller ironclad ship called the Monitor. The ships fought to a standstill. The Confederates ultimately destroyed the Merrimack in order to make sure it didn't fall into Union hands.Added to timeline:
