Description:
An unprepared Union army was sent to attack a smaller Confederate force at Bull Run (Manassas Junction). A win would demonstrate the superiority of Union arms and lead to the capture of Richmond. Thomas J. ("Stonewall") Jackson's army stood tough while waiting for reinforcements. Many Union soldiers fled and it became clear that the war would not be short.Added to timeline:
