may 18, 1896 - Plessy v. Ferguson

Description:

Plessy v. Ferguson was a case that was argued about segregation. The Supreme Court said that a state law that “implies merely a legal distinction” between the two races did not conflict with the 13th Amendment. This case is responsible for the quote “separate but equal”. After the Supreme Court decision on May 18th, 1896, it is said that this was widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in Supreme Court history.
