nov 11, 1620 - Pilgrims Land
Description:
On November 11th, 1620, the Mayflower landed in New England after 66 days of travel. The Pilgrims had originally planned on landing near the Hudson River in New York, however dangerous weather forced the ship to seek shelter in Cape Cod. After several weeks of exploring, the men arrived at a what seemed to be abandoned Wampanoag community. Because of the plentiful water supply, good harbor, clear fields, and location on a hill, the area made a favorable place for settlement. Finally, on December 16th, 1620, the Mayflower arrived in Plymouth Harbor.
