feb 8, 1887 - Dawes Allotment Act

Description:

The Dawes Allotment Act broke tribal hold on collectively owned land and were divided into 160 acre pieces. This act did not apply to the five civilized tribes. The lands was then distributed to individual tribal members and the remaining land was opened to white settlement through the Homestead Act.
