jan 1, 1879 - Bommer Movement 1879 to 1885

Description:

Some people thought that the Unassigned Lands were eligible for homestead settlement. But the U.S. government thought otherwise and said the Homestead Act does not apply to the Unassigned Lands since they were taken from the Creek and Seminole tribes for a specific reason and were not public lands. People called Bommers were the ones who “boomed” the loudest for the settlement of the Unassigned Lands.
