feb 1, 1870 - Railroads in Indian Territory

Description:

By the terms of the Reconstruction Treaties of 1866, companies were allowed to lay railroad tracks down in Indian Territory. Within the next decade trains were running through towns like McAlester and Durant. The railroads helped in the economic recovery of Indian Territory but it also made the tribespeople the minority on their own land.
