The Atlanta Constitution says "Many of the newcomers are driven north by persecutions in southerly states as well as by the lure of high wages in the munitions factories …. These people in many instances need proper clothing to enabled them to withstand the rigors of this climate: they need decent housing facilities"(The Atlanta Constitution 1916). The paper is saying that the reason the people are leaving the south is because the northers are bribing them with better living and better pay. This is important because Ida Mae could have read this before she left and it could have an impact on her .
