On the tenth day of the tenth month, Snow Flower's cousin's Sitting and Singing officially began. Lily went to visit the girl's upstairs chamber, knowing she would encounter Snow Flower there. As ladies sang and told stories, Snow Flower stood up and began to read a letter of vituperation about how she didn't understand why her lifelong sworn friend had abandoned her. Lily stood up and responded in anger, she says such unkind and vulgar words towards Snow Flower and makes her seem out to be a lying, sneaky, sex-obsessed, poor wench. Snow Flower sobs and leaves. Lily's speech would become well-known throughout the country, it would be embroidered on things, taught to girls and sung during month of wedding festivities to warn brides of life's pitfalls. Snow Flower's disgrace was known throughout the country too.
