mar 1, 1956 - Suez Crisis
Description:
The Suez Crisis was a major event in
British decolonization as Britain tried to exert its power over Egypt and take control of the profitable Suez Canal. The US demanded that Britain step down, not only displaying Britain's disappointing military might but also her lack of political power on a global stage. Along with decolonization, this also forced Britian to retract resources from Africa and colonialism and focus on European politics.
