Description:

Harriet Beecher Stowe, an antislavery activist, wrote a story about the evils of slavery and for the first time, white northerners felt the horrors of slavery. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" opened up the eyes of the northerners even more than before and this book was read by millions, even the British. The South banned this book saying that it was a false representation of slavery. After the book became very popular, more and more people began to denounce slavery and the South began to hurt.
