In August of 1492, Christopher Columbus set out to find a route to Asia by sailing west across the Atlantic Ocean. Columbus never actually reached Asia. He landed on an island in the Caribbean Sea. In October, Columbus and a small fleet of ships named: the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María, reached land. When Columbus got there he met a group of people called the Taino people. He renamed the island San Salvador, and he spent 96 days exploring the islands.Added to timeline:
