The Domino Theory policy was a staple of the Cold War. Essentially, it argued that letting just one country succumb to Communism would open the door for other countries to succumb to Communism until the entire world was Communist. It was used as a means of justifying the involvement of the U.S. in several countries’ conflicts, such as the Civil War in Vietnam, for the sake of stopping the spread of Communism and keeping all the dominoes standing upright
