jan 17, 1961 - Military-Industrial Complex Speech
Description:
The Military-Industrial Complex Speech was the name given to Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Farewell Address. In it, he warned the American people about the dangers of the Military-Industrial Complex, a name he created which represents the military forces of the United States. Eisenhower differed from Trueman and many other presidents during the Cold War, in that he opposed direct involvement and expansion of the US military. His speech and it’s contents brought change to the country, and unfortunately Eisenhower’s fear became reality, as the United States began to further increase its military budget, skyrocketing it’s debt, and getting involved in military conflicts such as the Vietnam War.
