oct 16, 1962 - Cuban Missile Crisis

Description:

This crisis was a scare for all of America as it was discovered that the Soviet Union had missile sites built in Cuba. Even though the Soviet Union had passed this off as “helping an ally country”, President JFK and the U.S. government were still on high alert as JFK made an announcement to the U.S. and the Soviet Union that any missile sent to the Northern Hemisphere would be considered an attack on the U.S. and require immediate retaliation on Russia. This event was important because it helped America gain trust in JFK. It also lead to the Nuclear Test Ban treaty being signed by the U.S. and Russia. This ultimately makes the world safer now that there are restrictions on nuclear weapons as well as testing them.
