sep 18, 1947 - National Security Act
Description:
The National Security Act forced a major revamp in foreign policy and military establishments for the US. Some of these were the additions of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other institutions like the National Security Council (NSC). Using this act, the government was able to use the CIA as a primary intelligence gathering organization and merged the military departments to create the Department of Defense to further create a sense of security and enforce their foreign policy. The NSC was able to actively discuss long term problems and national security crises with the President and other members. This act continues the belief that the US needs to enforce security both within and in foreign policy to keep the communists away from expanding during the cold war.
