aug 6, 1945 - Bombing of Hiroshima
Description:
The US was the first and only country to use an atomic weapon during war when it dropped the atomic bomb at Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. About 80,000 were killed and another 35,000 injured from the blast. An extra 60,000 ended up dying within a year from side effects. This bomb ended the cold war since it forced Japan to surrender, in the worst possible way, but also ignited the cold war since it was arguably used to intimidate the Soviet Union. This sparked the rivalry and competition between the two countries that led to the cold war. This shows how not only did the US finish one war they did not want to participate in, but started another one soon after with a superpower of the world.
