As the Cold War intensified because of Soviet action in eastern europe and the blockade of Berlin supply routes, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or Nato, was created On April 4th 1949 by the United states, Canada, and several western european countries in an effort to create collective protection from the soviet union. This would eventually lead the soviet union to create their own version, the warsaw pact, increasing the tension of the cold war.
