The first Voltaic Pile was created by Luigi Galvani, Alessandro Volta, and 2 others. They paired a copper and zinc disks with cloth soaked in a brine of electrolyte. It was the first device to store and create an electric charge while losing little charge when idle. Later, the zinc was replaced with silver because of its better conductivity. This breakthrough in electricity and power led to the creation of electrochemistry.Added to timeline:
