Description:

As a physician, Dr. Montessori begins to work with children in insane asylums, and is appalled by the lack of affection and stimulation. She becomes the director of the Orthophrenic School, which trains teachers of children with developmental disabilities. She feels "it is necessary for these unfortunate beings to re-enter human society and to take their place in the civilized world and render them independent of others, placing human dignity within their grasp."
