jan 1, 1803 - John Dalton atomic theory
Description:
Daltons created five postulates in 1803 that helped us understand how he envisioned atoms to look like and behave. He began by saying that some basic characteristics of an atom and how they are indivisible as well as unable to be created or destroyed. He then went of to say that atoms are what make up elements and that that atoms in a single element are identical, but atoms in different elements differ from each other through their makeup and mass. He went on to state that compounds are two or more types fo atoms combining. Unlike the Democritus, Dalton did an experiment to prove his theory, he combined oxygen with nitrate oxide and observed how integral multiple proportions was present. this was helpful when proving because he originally use the law of multiple proportions when creating his theory. Dalton contradicted previous ideas about atoms in some ways just due to the fact that he actually provided some sort of evidence through experiments and proven laws making his valid for the time period.
