jan 1, 1045 - Bagratid capital Ani is
incorporated into
the Byzantine empire
Description:
At this time Byzantium - in the uncertain hands of Constantine IX Monomachus - was almost devoid of any policy except military conquest and annexation. After a few years of flattery, persuasion, and force, the Bagratid king of Ani, Gagik II, was treacherously lured into abdication, and his kingdom incorporated into the Byzantine empire. The same fate awaited the king of Kars and other Armenian kinglets. Armenia now was not only leaderless, but also disarmed.
