sep 23, 1867 - Stranger visit
Description:
Twain's 1867 visit occurred on the civil-war-era ship, "Quaker City" and was an early example of a new industry ... tourism. His fare was paid by the newspaper Alta California in return for 50 articles he would write about the experience for the San Francisco-based newspaper.
American literary giant Mark Twain witnessed what he did not know he was a key player starting a prophetic return of the Jewish people to the holy land. The renowned travel book that became the foundation for his success, Innocents Abroad, painted a picture of a holy land whose desolation would serve as the beginning point of prophecy brought to life.
As a writer, he kept journal (later published as "Innocents Abroad" and unknowingly became witness to desolation. Concerning the land he wrote "Rags, wretchedness, poverty and dirt... Lepers, cripples, the blind... To see the numbers of maimed, malformed and diseased humanity that throng the holy places..."
