jan 1, 1651 - The Navigation Act (1651)

Description:

An act passed by England that would build up British trade while exacerbating conflict with the Dutch. It threatened the economic existence of the Dutch and placed England against them in a way where they wouldn’t be of help in wars with France. This ended with William III coming to the throne much later.

(COMPARISON) The act proves to be more important than the wars between the Dutch and England because it was the basis of the conflict and it devastated the Dutch economically. (Palmer, 154)
