dec 4, 1867 - The Grange
Description:
The patrons of Husbandry also known as the Grange was formed in 1867. This organization was formed by Oliver Kelley from Minnesota to create a united front of farmers against the railroads and shipping company as well as creating a way to cooperatively purchase supplies and market crop prices. The Grange attempted to remain apart from politics but, try as they might the group had to become in a way politically active shown even more so by the Panic of 1873. They began then to either run independent candidates or to support politicians from the democratic and republican party which supported stable prices for railroads and warehouses. They were able to in some states to even pass "Granger Laws", which put these ideas into effect. The Grange though did not effect or attempt to change the currency of the United States
