Mother Jones was a labor activist that began her work after losing her home in the great Chicago fire of 1871. She worked with the Knights of Labor, giving speeches to inspire workers during strikes. The nickname 'Mother' came from the way she cared for the workers. She was also known as the miner's angel. She was arrested at 82 but pardoned by the governor of West Virginia,
