Description:
The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 started in response to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad cutting wages for the second time in eight months. Workers refused to let any trains leave unless the cut was revoked. Militia men and federal troops were needed to let any trains leave six days after. This initial strike spread along the Baltimore & Ohio railroad line. In total, more than 100,000 workers participated in the strike.
