The Group Of Seven was founded in May, 1920. The original members of the Group of Seven were Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Franz Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald and F.H. Varley. They were known for the unique paintings they created, most included bright colors, tactile paint handling, and simple yet dynamic forms. Their goal was effectively to change Canadian taste and values through the distribution of paintings, publications of articles, and encouragement of collectors of Canadian art. The Group Of Seven were composed of indigenous artists. Their art helped the indigenous people's of Canada get recognition and respect as a people.
