Irrigation helped farmers to meet the worldwide demand of eating, inasmuch as it provided a consistent source of food. Hence, it stimulated a sustainable cycle of growth.
Since its emergence, irrigation allowed societies to sustain a more reliable food chain in unstable parts of the world. In fact, civilization would probably not be possible without some form of irrigation.
