nov 2, 1942 - Battle of Stalingrad
Description:
(Term 3) A battle between the Russian and German military after the Germans had attempted to take over Russia. This battle was a major turning point in favor of Russia.
1. The Russians' victory showed that Germany could be beat and inspired the people to keep fighting for their freedom, knowing they had a chance.
2. This victory greatly weakened the German forces, leading to their downfall after D-Day [I included D-Day on here but not as part of the assignment]. Many people were given aid and freed after the war. This made the Battle of Stalingrad a major victory, saving many lives.
3. Since the city was named after Stalin himself, the Russian soldiers fought more furiously to protect the city. Their morals were boosted by their respect for their leaders and country. This serves as an example of how respect for leaders and country pride is a powerful ally. This is an important factor of war.
