oct 26, 1917 - Battle of Passchendaele

Description:

Sir Arthur Currie was the Commander of the Canadian Corps. At the battle of Passchendaele he decided that it is best for Canada to not fight in this battle as their could be a lot of casualties. However, the Canadian army still went through with this battle, which resulted in 16,000 casualties. There were about 620,000 soldiers present in the Canadian army during WW1, it was a drastic loss to the army as 16,000 Canadian soldiers had died.

Francis Pegahmagabow, known as "Peggy", was an Ojibwa from the Parry Island Band in Ontario and one of 4 000 Aboriginals who served in the war. He was apart of the trench warfare. At that time, the Germans started to use gas bombs, he saw many of his fellow soldiers die from poison. Even though the Germans were throwing poison gas at the Canadians present there, Francis somehow survived the attack and gained a fierce reputation among his fellow soldiers, as many First Nations soldiers did, of being an excellent sniper. .
