The British ocean liner was hit with a torpedo by a German submarine and within 20 minutes it sinks. There were 1,959 passengers and crew, and of that 1,198 drowned. 128 of those people were Americans. This annoyed the Americans, but Germany tried to defend it by saying they issued a warning.Added to timeline:
