nov 21, 1668 - William of Orange (1688)

Description:

William of Orange, the stadholder of the Netherlands, had a very important role in the affairs of Europe as the chief orchestrator of alliances and plots against the Sun-King, Louis XIV. He was critical in creating the League of Augsburg that fought in the War of the League of Augsburg and and to creating the alliance that fought against Louis XIV in the War of Spanish Succession. But perhaps his most important and longest lasting achievement, however, was taking the throne of England and thus securing further opposition against Louis. (Palmer 152-154)
