mar 25, 1648 - Secularization (1648)
Description:
Starting around the end of the Thirty Years War, Europe saw a trend towards secularization, which can be defined as the separation of religion and politics (but not necessarily the decreasing relevance of religion). This trend towards secularization led to more civil rights thought and movements as well as an end to religious wars in Europe. It also lead to the reduced influence of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church on political matters of Europe. (Palmer 138, 140, Notes)
