aug 23, 1939 - Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
Description:
Non-aggression treaty between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed in Moscow
1939: Soviet Union and Germany not ready to go to war with each other
Although it was a "non-aggression treaty," it had a secret protocol. Countries like Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania were divided into spheres of influence between Germany and the USSR. It had assumed "territorial and political rearrangements" in areas of these countries. All countries were invaded, occupied, or forced to become part of the empire of either Germany, the USSR or both.
